Chapter 10

“Alright,” I said with a sigh. All in favor of summoning Megulla?”

To my surprise, all of my guild mates raised their hands.

“Really?” I said, glancing at Trinity. “I thought that if anyone protested, it would be you.”

“It’s the only way,” she said with a shrug. “We’re way outnumbered, outgunned, and outclassed. We’re going to lose and be dropped to level zero, and we’ll just end up in the Underworld anyway.”

“That’s what I’ve been screaming,” Nanaya said with a huff.

“Alright, I guess we’re doing this,” I said with a small laugh. Then I straightened up and cleared my throat and called to the Lord of the Underworld. “Megulla, if you can hear me, I need you.”

When nothing happened, I called to her again and again, but still nothing.

“She’s ignoring you,” said Kit.

“Must be,” I said and glanced at Nanaya. I knew that she had a spell that could summon Megulla, hell, for a time, Nanaya had been the dark lord.

“Nanaya, do your damnedest.”

“Finally.” Nanaya spread her wings and floated out of her chair. “I’ve had the spell ready for some time now, but we’re going to have to do it somewhere else.”

We went out into the courtyard, and Nanaya prepared her spell to summon Megulla. It took her the better part of an hour, and when she was done, I stared down at the intricate pentagram that she had lined with skulls and bones.

“Alright,” she said as she checked over her work. “We only need one more thing.”

“What’s that?’ I asked.

“A sacrifice,” she said and bit her lip.

“Oh goody,” said Ember.

“Let me guess,” I said. “It has to be a real-world player.”

She nodded apprehensively.

“Well, it might as well be me,” I told her. “I’ve already been ganked a bunch of levels.”

“Sorry hero,” said Nanaya, “but the sacrifice must come from the summoner. I have to kill myself for it to work.”

“Oh, sorry.”

“It’s all good.” She let out a slow breath. “I’m just trying to work up the courage.”

“We can help with the pain,” said Anna, gesturing to Kit and Cecilia.

“Thanks.” Nanaya moved to the middle of the pentagram and produced a dagger. “I’m ready,” she told the healers.

Anna, Kit, and Cecilia all cast a spell on Nanaya that left her glowing. The succubus let out a nervous laugh, shook out her hands, and began chanting in a foreign language. I watched nervously as she finished the chant, turned the blade in on herself, and pulled it toward her. Nanaya doubled over and gasped, and the girls increased the power of their spells. It took an excruciating full minute for her to die, but when she did, a portal opened up above her corpse.

I stepped forward, nervous about what horrors would come out of the portal.

“Hello Samson,” came a familiar voice laced with sex.

Megulla floated out of the portal, but to my surprised, none of the denizens of the dark followed her. She touched down before me, wrapped her arms around me, and gave me a big kiss.

Trinity gave an annoyed cough, and Megulla offered her a sly grin.
